Not Every Coaster Starts That Way

Coasters aren’t always coasters. A lot of them started off strong. Some of them were elite. And then something changes—personally, professionally, whatever—and they flatten out.

You see it in their energy. They’re still doing the job, technically. But they’re not chasing. They’re not building. They’re just maintaining.

My advice is always to figure out why. You can’t just write someone off. Something put them in that place. Until you understand what that is, you don’t really know what you’re dealing with.

Strivers are different. They want to get better. They are hyper-curious. They respond to coaching. They’re trying to move forward even if they’re not there yet.

The best thing you can do for someone like that is stay close. Keep checking in. Not just about the dashboard or the pipeline. Figure out what they need. Where they’re trying to grow. What’s getting in the way.

Sometimes it’s a coaching thing. Sometimes it’s not. But you won’t figure it out if you’re not paying attention.
